Mikhail Afanasyevich Bulgakov was born in Kyiv. After graduating from the medical faculty of Kyiv University, he went to work in the very depths of the Russian Empire. Even then, the plots of stories about the difficult life of a zemstvo doctor were born, which later formed the basis of the collection “Notes on Cuffs.” Over time, Bulgakov left medical practice and devoted himself entirely to literature. Despite the fact that Mikhail Afanasyevich wrote many stories, plays, novels, wide fame in his homeland, and then world fame, came to him only almost 30 years after his death - with with the 1968 publication of the main novel of his life, The Master and Margarita. Today, Bulgakov's works are constantly republished, feature films are made based on them, and performances based on his plays are in the repertoire of many theaters.
