Beauty is more than just “truth,” or rather, beauty is inseparable from truth as the measure of what theology can call true. Of course, this book's attempt to justify evangelical rhetoric through beauty itself leads to new questions. Who can say with certainty that beauty is free from violence or any tricks? How can one convincingly prove that “beauty” does not serve the very strategy of power to which it is supposed to constitute an alternative? An "aesthetic" response to the postmodern insistence that violence is inevitable is only adequate if it contains an intelligible appreciation of beauty within the Christian tradition itself; only under this condition can beauty mediate Christian truth without the slightest shadow of violence.
