The appearance of Christian Kracht's second novel, 1979, was perhaps the most notable event at the 2001 Frankfurt Book Fair. The son of a Swiss industrialist, Christian Kracht (b. 1966), who spent his childhood in the USA, Canada and Southern France, then traveled almost the whole world, and for the last three years he has been constantly living in Bangkok, Thailand, since his publication in 1995 his debut novel “Faserland” (Russian trans. M.: Ad Marginem, 2001) is considered the founder of German “pop literature”, or “new dandyism”.
