Contemporaries called Marcus Aurelius a righteous man on the throne, the like of which had never been before. The emperor was filled with the deepest love for people, humility, kindness and generosity. Despite the fact that he had to always be in sight, conduct government affairs, and participate in military campaigns, he often sought solitude, finding it within himself. This is how the book of reflections “Alone with Myself” was born, which he wrote all his life. This is the story of his soul: reasoning, individual thoughts, advice to descendants. An attempt to understand oneself, the essence of human life. Until now, the themes of good and evil, the meaning of existence and the inevitability of death, human behavior and their relationships, touched upon in the book, remain relevant, and the reader’s interest in this monument of literature of Ancient Rome remains unchanged.
