Cow Country could have been written by Thomas Pynchon if he had to work at a small college for six months. Pearson, with his verbal balancing act and play with meaning, will make the reader literally moo with pleasure. Charlie arrives at Cow's Moose College, where he still does not know what he, a special projects coordinator, will have to do. The tasks seem to be extremely simple - to achieve renewal of accreditation for the college and throw a big Christmas party. But Charlie will have to fight with the bureaucracy: there are two opposing camps in the college, and their enmity may prevent him from achieving his goal. One camp is the old-school meat eaters, while the other is the new generation of vegetarians. In the labyrinth of “the meat of discord”, strange teaching staff and a dubious set of academic disciplines, Charlie will have to look for not the most obvious solutions, bordering on madness.
