This is another volume published as part of a grandiose project dedicated to the history of Russian and world culture. The concept of "East" has changed in different eras; the author begins the story with Palestine, Phenicia, Syria - the Holy Land for all religions associated with the biblical tradition. Dramatic events of Old Testament history, familiar to us from the Bible, but hardly adequately understood by us; the great mystery of New Testament history, the redemptive mission of Jesus Christ, His image in world culture, including in the spiritual heritage of Russia, are the main themes of this book. And the more “eastern” East is represented in it by Ancient India - the keeper of Vedic traditions and the birthplace of Buddhism, which, according to the firm conviction of the author, in many manifestations of its culture is deeply related to Russia, its spiritual heritage and its very perception of the world.
