Boris Evgenievich Tumasov is a Russian Soviet writer, author of several historical novels dedicated to the events of the past of Rus'-Russia - “Difficult Years”, “Fierce Dawns”, “Under the Banner” Russian Empire”, “The Unknown Land”, etc. The story “On the Southern Frontiers”, which gives the title to the entire book, tells about the events of the late 18th century - the resettlement of the Cossacks of Zaporozhye by royal decree to the North Caucasus steppes to cover the southernmost borders of the empire from the Turkish invasion. Ivan Fedorovich Nazhivin (1874–1940) is a famous writer of Russian diaspora, the author of more than two dozen historical novels. The novel “Cossacks”, first published in 1928 in Paris, is dedicated to one of the largest and bloodiest uprisings against the authorities in the history of Russia – the Peasant Revolution war of 1670–1671, led by Cossack ataman Stepan Razin.
