The book “Modernite in Selected Subjects” is devoted to different subjects - and one topic. This theme is “modernity,” a historical period that recreated our world, turning it upside down much more consistently than any changes that have occurred in the world since the advent of Christianity. In Russian everyday speech, “modern” means what is happening now and is opposed to the past, “history”. However, in French and English this concept has its own chronological framework and its own content. So the book is not about “modernity”, but about modernite, a concept introduced by Charles Baudelaire.
