This book tells the story of the history of the names of streets, squares, islands, bridges, rivers and canals of St. Petersburg - and through it the history of our city and country, as it is reflected in these names. The authors explain the origin of each city name - existing now and ever existing before - except for those that do not require explanation, and talk about what is connected with it, be it the biography of a person, the history of the area or a remarkable building after which the street is named.
