This complex explores facts, events and processes on the basis of historical sources, which are dealt with by source studies and a number of auxiliary historical disciplines. In its full diversity, it consists of world (universal) history and the history of individual countries and peoples. The organic parts of history, as a complex of sciences, are the special historical sciences of archeology and ethnography. The histories of various aspects of culture, science and technology, such as the history of mathematics, the history of physics, the history of music, the history of theater, all of them in all their diversity are facets of the diamond called History. Once upon a time in ancient times, the value of a diamond was determined by its size. The larger the diamond, the higher it was valued. The owners of the most expensive diamonds were kings and distinguished persons. Then man learned to cut the hardest of precious stones, indestructible adamas. Since then, its value began to be determined by the number of edges applied to it, which allowed it to play with all the colors of the rainbow. So is history. From a toy for those in power, it has turned into the property of all humanity, and the more facets a skilled person cuts on it, the brighter it plays in the rays of the sun. Each researcher, each new fact adds facets to it. But, as in the life of precious diamonds, when along with pure diamonds there are rhinestones, such a glass substitute for a shining diamond, so in history, the reliability of each fact must be verified. Each witness to history is in itself an object of investigation and verification. This applies to everything: an archaeological find and a manuscript, an ancient sword, and even a majestic Cathedral. The researcher’s motto should be the words “Not a word on faith!”
