When a person’s life comes to a dead end or is exhausted in literally everything that he previously breathed, a special time and space of despair and weightlessness opens up. Casey Peabody, a lonely young woman, mired in long-standing student debt and love confusion, who unexpectedly lost her closest friend - her own mother, rents a barn in Boston that is at least suitable for living and tries to somehow stay afloat - works as a waitress, walks the barn owner's dog and tries to unfreeze his feelings. Casey also has a reason to visit the doctors. On top of all this, she is a passionate aspiring writer with a lot to say, but everything is moving extremely slowly: she has been writing her first novel for six years. She also has enough inner demons, but what Casey gradually develops is not graphomania, and even she herself, albeit hesitantly, understands this. Lily King tells and shows us how life shuffles the lousiest cards, what unexpected turns even the most bitter hopelessness is rich in, and how deep and terrifyingly beautiful the world is when one looks at it through the eyes of the creator - and her gaze is insightful, gentle and uncompromising.
