Peter Zilachy was born in 1970 in Budapest. At the university he studied English philology, cultural anthropology and philosophy. He made his debut in literature with a collection of poems (1993), but gained real fame after the publication of the novel “The Last Window Giraffe” (1998), which has since been translated into 14 languages. Using the form of an illustrated children's lexicon, Peter Zilachy created an encyclopedia full of irony and black humor of the Balkans and, more broadly, Eastern Europe - this “dump of nations”, which once again found itself at a dramatic crossroads of history in the last decades of the 20th century. Zilachy’s book was awarded a number of international awards. A multimedia version of the novel was shown on Broadway, in Germany, and in London's Covent Garden.
