“Mr. Sologub, of course, belongs to the heavy writers: his psychology, his style of writing, the ideas that occupy him - everything is like low-crawling, damp, leaden clouds. They will not please anyone’s eyes, they will not ease anyone’s soul,” wrote Vasily Rozanov about the work of Fyodor Sologub. Perhaps this is the most direct and honest definition of Sologub’s manner. His novel “Heavy Dreams” began in 1883, finished in 1894, and is considered the first Russian decadent novel. The label was assigned to all leading literary magazines immediately after publication: “Russian Thought” - “decadent nonsense mixed with crude, exaggerated naturalism”; “Russian Messenger” is “a curious literary incident, a groundless invention,” etc. But this is not a single-style work at all, there is decadence, symbolism, modernism and Sologub’s neo-mythologism. «Важкі сни» Федора Сологуба - це не просто книга, а справжня подорож у світ людської психології та внутрішніх переживань. Автор вміло поєднує елементи декадентства, символізму та модернізму, створюючи багатошарову історію, яка змушує задуматися про сутність людського існування. Сологуб майстерно описує внутрішній світ свого героя, вчителя Логіна, його страхи, сумніви та мрії, які, як важкі хмари, нависають над ним. Цей роман не для легкого читання, але саме в цьому його цінність. Він спонукає читача заглибитися в свої власні думки та емоції, відчуваючи всю глибину людських переживань. Хоча критики називали його «декадентською маячнею», я вважаю, що це твір, який варто прочитати кожному, хто шукає щось більше, ніж просто розваги. Сологуб вміє торкнутися найглибших струн душі, і його «Важкі сни» залишають по собі глибокий слід. Рекомендую всім, хто готовий до інтелектуального виклику!
