The book by the Anglo-American writer Frances Hodgson Burnett (1849–1924) “Little Lord Fauntleroy” is centered on a seven-year-old boy who managed to maintain high human qualities despite all the vicissitudes of fate. A simple but fascinating plot tells about all the vicissitudes of his life in America in the modest house of a widow, and then in England, when, having inherited the title, he finds himself the closest friend of his stern grandfather. This book is about goodness and how people change under its influence. The origins of the novel are the Anglo-American theme: conservative England is on one side of the ocean of destinies, republican America is on the other. “Little Lord Fauntleroy” (1886) - was first published in Russian in 1888; was reprinted many times in various translations, but only until 1918. In 1992, the novel returned from oblivion in an excellent translation by N. M. Demurova.
