He didn’t tell stories, didn’t moralize, didn’t try to entertain or make the viewer laugh. With courage and enthusiasm, he set out to create not a likeness, but an equivalent of the world around him. In contrast to fast-flowing life, Pirosmani’s world belonged to eternity. His art was in tune with the most daring innovations and had a great influence on the further development of both the Georgian and Russian schools of painting.
