The traveling merchant Lawrence leaves Rübinhaigen with the Wise Wolf Holo. In search of information about the homeland of Jolo, as well as for the sake of successful trade, Lawrence decides to visit the bustling city of Kumersun. On the eve of the holiday, a large winter fair is held there. Upon arrival, the main characters meet the young fishmonger Amati. The young man shows great interest in Holo and quickly becomes close to her. At the same time, discord is brewing between Lawrence and Holo. It seems that further events will lead to real commotion, and it will affect not only personal relationships, but also the craft of Amati and Lawrence.
