Suger, abbot of Saint-Denis near Paris (1122-1151) and regent of France (1147-1149) was one of the significant political figures of medieval France. Contemporary and comrade-in-arms of King Louis VI (1108-1137) throughout his reign. At the end of his life, Suger wrote a biography-memoir “The Life of Louis VI Tolstoy” as a broad canvas of the political life of the then Europe, and not just France. His work is distinguished by a very moderate religiosity, inspiring patriotism and an objectivity of presentation that was surprising for its time. “Life…” was included as an integral part in the “Great French Chronicle” - the main compilation on the history of the reign of French kings. The book offers genealogical tables showing the kinship and marriage ties of the main characters, and therefore their mutual claims to certain properties.
