Six Days of the Flood, or Diary of a Motorcyclist

We suffered for these motorcycles, deserved them, earned them. They became ours by right. We paid for them with hard-earned money, we worked on them for two whole years. Why then does everyone look at us so strangely? Where have the hospitable cafe owners, friendly waitresses, friendly truck drivers and just kind-hearted motorists gone? Why, oh why, during the entire trip, thousands of kilometers away, I never saw a sympathetic face? But the weather is clearly not for walking on a motorcycle, it seems that we should feel sorry for us, but no - everywhere we are met with indifferent, sometimes hostile, and even downright malicious glances. Is it really our motorcycles that are to blame for this?
