It is possible to love the Motherland and be a patriot, realizing the spirituality of the Russian people, which is rooted in the glorious historical past of Rus'. In an effort to raise patriots among youth, we turn to the spiritual qualities of the first Russian saints. The Grand Duke of Kiev Vladimir Svyatoslavich, the Baptist of Rus', managed to educate the best masculine qualities in his sons from the same mother, Boris and Gleb. An ancient hagiographer states: “Boris was strong in body, adorned in every possible way - like a flower blooming in his youth; He was brave in battle, wise in advice, and wise in everything. The grace of God flourished in him.” The guideline in the education of modern patriots is the main quality of Boris and Gleb as Christians - following their conscience in the name of brotherly love as opposed to the tough pagan struggle for power and material wealth, which gave rise to their moral victory. The whole earth recognizes them as saints. It was a revolution from pagan consciousness, from the lust for power and profit, to Christianity, the achievement of a spiritual and moral ideal.
