A remarkable French writer, talented playwright and gallant critic, Louis Amédée Achard (1814–1875) gained worldwide fame by turning to the genre of adventure novel. Already in 1838, his works conquered Paris, and then the whole world.
The novels “Cloak and Sword” and “The Golden Fleece” tell about the young Count Huguet-Paul de Montestruc. And wherever the fate of our hero takes us, his faithful servant and assistant Coclico is always next to him. His kind heart, as well as the nobility of Count Yuge’s thoughts, serve as the key to a whole cascade of dizzying adventures, from which it is not at all easy to get out. “Cloak and Sword” introduces the childhood and early youth of a nobleman, “The Golden Fleece” tells about the hero’s more mature years. The action takes place in France during the reign of King Louis XIV.
