A remarkable French writer, talented playwright and gallant critic, Louis Amédée Achard (1814–1875) gained worldwide fame by turning to the genre of adventure novel. Already in 1838, his works conquered Paris, and then the whole world.

"Cloak and Sword" introduces the childhood and early youth of a nobleman. The action takes place in France during the reign of King Louis XIV.
