An unsuccessful actor in a famous theater has a dream: he is assigned to the role of Juliet. Soon, for the first time in many years of service, the director calls him for an important conversation. Thus begins the adventures of the protagonist, full of humor and sadness, in which priests and directors, journalists and artists, beautiful women, oligarchs and domestic cats will take part. The action takes place in the famous Moscow theater and in one of the Orthodox churches. The director and the priest are fighting for power over the public and flock. The world of the theater - funny and tragic - is shown in the novel as a symbol of modern society: artists are consumed by vanity and the thirst for self-realization; journalists are busy searching for anything but the truth; the clergyman weaves intrigues and enters into an alliance with the “powers of this world.” But other passions are also in full swing in the theater: the plot of the book is an unpredictable and dramatic love story. “Theater History” interweaves bold social satire and deep psychological analysis, bright humor and an exciting plot. Arthur Solomonov's novel is as relevant as today's news, but its characters belong just as much to literature as to life.
