Jacob Henry Schiff (1847–1920) was a famous American banker, philanthropist and public figure. Since 1885, he managed the banking house of Kuhn, Loeb and Co., one of the most successful in the United States, which participated in the financing of many large projects, including the railway network. Schiff also proved himself as a political figure. This applies, in particular, to autocratic Russia, against which he waged an irreconcilable struggle, actively opposing its receipt of loans from the United States. He warmly welcomed the Provisional Government and was ready to negotiate on providing it with financial assistance. The same applied to Japan, which Schiff strongly supported during the Russo-Japanese War. The book provides interesting facts from Schiff's biography and letters, which indicate his diverse interests and activities.
