Eugene Ionesco (1912–1994) is one of the founders of the drama of the absurd. However, this publication introduces the reader to his little-known prose. In the novel “Alone with Loneliness”, translated into Russian for the first time, despite the simple, deliberately everyday narrative, it is difficult to draw the line between reality and phantasmagoria, when the boring world of the hero - small, unremarkable an employee who unexpectedly becomes rich - either a fictional or a real civil war breaks out on the scale of... one street. And against this background, with naive and touching tenacity, the hero seeks his destiny, his place in the Universe, his connection with the people whom he sees imprisoned in crystal coffins... In Ionesco’s eccentrically grotesque stories-parables, the feeling of nightmare, meaninglessness and irrationality of human life is combined with criticism conformist consciousness.
