The book includes articles and essays by the famous literary historian Leonid Grossman, previously published in three collections: “From Pushkin to Blok: Sketches and Portraits” (1926), “The Struggle for Style: Experiments in Criticism and Poetics” (1927) and “The Pen Workshop: Articles on Literature” (1930). Studying the individual style of the writer, Grossman pays close attention not only to texts, but also to biographical facts, psychological characteristics of the individual, the writer’s worldview, and the patterns of his interaction with socio-political circumstances.
