Vandenberg began his career as an author of popular science literature in 1973. He took a year off and went to Egypt to research the so-called “curse of the pharaoh.” In the same year, he published his first book, “The Curse of the Pharaohs,” about the mysterious deaths of thirty archaeologists, with which he paved his way to the heights of fame as “one of the most successful writers in Germany.” Popular science historical works “Nefertiti” (1975) and “Nefertiti, Akhenaten and their era” (1976) were published. They were followed in 1977 by the no less successful "Ramesses", which is a biography of the great Egyptian pharaoh from the point of view of a researcher of antiquity. Vandenberg also returns to ancient Egyptian themes in the novel “The Viceroy of Ra,” dedicated to the female pharaoh Hatshepsut. Here is just a partial list of the author's bestsellers: “The Fifth Gospel”, “The Flight of Copernicus”, “A Resident of Pompeii”, “The Secret of the Scarab”, “The Secret Diaries of Augustus”, “Drowned Hellas”, “Schliemann’s Gold”, “Gladiator”, “The Secret of the Curse” pharaohs." He has an unerring instinct for sensational historical mysteries, seemingly crazy hypotheses, which in his presentation become surprisingly plausible and exciting. This is largely due to the fact that Philip Vandenberg is a professional historian, a world-famous scientist, and the author of numerous authoritative works that are recognized in the scientific world. He is considered one of the most serious biographers of the Roman Emperor Nero, a very controversial personality, whose life path is rich in unusual events. Philip Vandenberg was also interested in the fates of other outstanding historical figures, for example, Heinrich Schliemann, the discoverer of the treasures of ancient Troy, and also his fellow countryman. This man, obsessed with the desire to find the treasures of Priam from his youth, is described in the book “Schliemann's Gold,” where you can also find little-known historical facts dating back to the times of ancient Troy.
