This book by the famous German thinker G.W.F. Hegel included his famous work “Phenomenology of Spirit” and a fragment of the work “Philosophy of Right”. Hegel wrote “Phenomenology of Spirit” when Jena was besieged by Napoleon’s troops, and the philosopher felt himself witnessing the greatest turning point in the history of mankind, the transition from the traditional way of life to global modernity. But in his work, the author does not talk about the world around him, but about the inevitable victory of the rational principle, the “spirit” as the general meaning of history. In “Philosophy of Law,” Hegel turns to another sphere of human worldview and says that law cannot be derived only from duty to society, from a sense of justice, or from customs for resolving disputes. It represents not only laws and their interpretation, but the opportunity to freely dispose of one’s body and one’s property, without feeling humiliation either in everyday life or in relationships with other people. Hegel can be called a prophet or an influential politician, but his main achievements lie in the field dialectics, which became a necessary part of the formation of philosophical thought of the 19th century.
