Each person sees the world around him in his own way, and a portrait painter always unwittingly dilutes the depicted colors with his own spiritual colors. And therefore he is deprived of the right to present his point of view as the universal truth. In these memoirs, I described only what I myself witnessed, leaving the reader the opportunity to impartially evaluate what was presented. I see a striking external resemblance between Anatoly Sobchak and the absurd Shemyakino sculpture “Peter the Great”, hastily and ardently accepted by the enthusiastic Leningrad mayor as a gift from a Parisian pseudo-patriotic sculptor and fleetingly and lovingly installed in the elderberry and acacia bushes near the Peter and Paul Cathedral under a dreary, especially deserted night in the air, with the bell-like howl of “How glorious...” with a one-time cannon fire, counting down the last moments of life, perhaps, for more than one generation of prisoners of this fortress-prison... Hungry pigeons are now stomping around the sculpture installed by Sobchak, rumbling loudly.
