In the center of the novel by the German writer I.M. Simmel's “Love is Just a Word” is the tragic love story of twenty-two-year-old Oliver Mansfeld, whose parents, persecuted by the police for tax evasion and financial fraud, were forced to flee to Luxembourg, leaving their eight-year-old son in Germany to study in a closed boarding school, and thirty-five-year-old, very wealthy, married woman Verena Lord, who has an illegitimate child. The lovers overcome a lot of obstacles, resort to deception and cunning for the sake of long-awaited meetings - in the old castle tower, in the forest, in a cafe, at sea and even in the villa of Verena’s husband. They are blackmailed by Oliver's servant and ex-girlfriend, threatening to tell everything to her husband, and they are being followed. “Love is just a word” is a multifaceted novel. This is both a melodrama and a detective story with elements of psychologism. The novel, which is read in one sitting, is very popular in Germany; it was made into a film that was a great success.
