The Encyclopedia of Banned Cinema tells the story of 125 famous films that were censored to one degree or another in the United States. It contains an analysis of the most notable films, as well as those measures and mechanisms that have changed over more than a century of cinema history that were used to completely or partially ban films. Political, public, religious organizations, representatives of sexual minorities and marginal groups and simply respectable citizens — they all consider themselves to have the right to dictate to artists. Soviet citizens who grew up under censorship will be curious to know how films such as Emmanuelle and A Farewell to Arms, The Great Dictator and La Dolce Vita were banned, shredded and mutilated. By Don B. Souva, Professor Montclair State College (New Jersey), also known for the books “Agatha Christie: From A to Z”, “Edgar Allan Poe: From A to Z”, “100 Banned Books”, etc.
