“Lvov loves to drink, knows how to drink and has something to drink,” Lvov residents said proudly. And they were right. After all, at one time Lviv was famous for the best beer in Poland from the brewery on Kleparovskaya Street, excellent Bachevsky vodka and kneipps - restaurants, cafes and just eateries. There were so many Kneipps that even today their geography amazes - after all, such establishments were not concentrated then only in the central part of Lvov, but were located on the outskirts, and even outside the city. And the Lviv residents entered them as if they were at home; everyone knew the waiter and the owner of the kneipe by name, and they, accordingly, knew their visitors, or, as they also said, guests, by name. The Kneipps had their own permanent audience, for whom “their” locale (institution) was above all else. The regulars were not just acquaintances - they knew each other very well and felt like one big family. This book tells about the Lviv kneipps of the 19th and first half of the 20th centuries. But by and large, it can also serve as an excellent guide to the then Lviv, because literally every kneipe has its own history and its own legend. And all these stories reveal the unique, incredible, magical image of Lvov. The book has gone through several editions in Ukrainian and is now being published in Russian for the first time.
