The texts by Sergei Nikolaevich Bulgakov included in this publication were written by him in the midst of the greatest upheavals that befell the country at the beginning of the 20th century. The dialogue “At the Feast of the Gods,” intended for the collection “From the Depths,” was published by Bulgakov as a separate edition already in 1918 and republished two years later, while “At the Walls of Chersoniss” will remain unpublished during the author’s lifetime and will be published only decades after his death . But these texts are closely connected with each other, being an intense reflection on the fate of the Church and Russia, in many ways a dispute with himself and with the thinkers closest to him, which determines the dialogical form chosen by the author.
