Автор майстерно передає атмосферу XVII століття, описуючи не лише історичні події, але й глибокі емоції персонажів, зокрема Шаха Джахана, який втратив свою кохану дружину і, здавалося б, втратив усе. Читач відчуває його горе, а також напруження між синами, які прагнуть влади, що робить сюжет ще більш захоплюючим.
