A novel in which philanthropy and friendship turn a dissident into a patriot. A patriot of his own, invented country. This country appears in one Russian town unexpectedly for everyone - including its potential citizens - and occupies only four floors of a student dormitory. When Islam Khasanov's friend and dorm roommate, an Estonian student named Yano, gets into trouble and is psychologically traumatized, Islam decides to help him. Yano no longer fits into the society of modern Russia and there is only one way for him - back to his homeland. But it has taken root in Russian reality, like a plant brought from another continent, and Islam understands that cutting these roots, given a friend’s very precarious psychological state, is dangerous. Then he, first jokingly and then seriously, creates “hothouse” conditions for his friend, building a new state around him and, one by one, cutting off ties with the outside world. Gradually, the new state, located on two dozen square meters and inhabited by only three citizens (the third is a girl named Natasha, a former dissident and friend of Islam and Yano), expands to cover the entire building. And then, thanks to the Internet, the contagion of indifference spreads to other educational institutions. The tension in the air is clearly rising. Enraged, the hostel residents attack the police. A furious, bloody war breaks out between two states - the one that is in the hearts of the guys, and the one of which they are virtually all citizens. Forty people turn into four hundred, and then into thousands, due to the fact that other sympathizers take to the streets. The end of everything comes when Yano breaks his neck in the dark. Islam, experiencing the death of his best friend, goes to the attic of the hostel and gets drunk there. He learns about the night's events much later, in the morning of the next day, from third parties, and all this leaves him practically indifferent. For him, this entire imaginary world rested on the love and mutual respect of three people: himself, Natasha and Yano. Now that one of the support points of this colossus has disappeared, the other two have also given way. From his former place of work - a cafe, the owners of which still have a very good attitude towards Islam, Khasanov calls Natasha and finds out that she never thought of joining the rebels. He also learns about the fate of the revolutionaries: of course, they were crushed. We can only hope that this impulse will not be in vain, and perhaps everything will change. The culmination of the novel should be considered the changes in the character of the protagonist in the light of everything that happened, which resulted in a telephone call that he did not dare to make. The novel was published in the magazine “Russian Echo” No. 3 and No. 4. 2014, Publishing house "Russian Echo", Samara. Chapters from the novel were published in the 100th anniversary issue of the Russian Echo magazine in May 2015: “500 golden pages. Volume 2"
