Archbishop Luke (Voino-Yasenetsky) was a wonderful doctor and could have carried out this service to suffering humanity for the rest of his life. But he felt a calling to an even higher service and, in the most terrible years for the Church, accepted the priesthood, and soon the episcopal rank. After a short stay in departments that changed at the will of others - many years of imprisonment. Then came the years of the fragile and ambiguous “Stalinist Concordat,” when, under the influence of military events, a revival of church life took place, within rather narrow limits. The overwhelming majority of priests who returned from prisons and camps had one feeling: “well, now we can serve,” and Bishop Luke wanted not only to serve, but also to fight for the souls of those who were far from the Church. This is how these sermons and books arose, some of the remarkable works of church “samizdat”. The book presents the autobiography of St. Luke, selected sermons from 1945 to 1956, as well as sections devoted to science and religion, spirit, soul and body.
