On the eve of the winter holiday, a new agent of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Megan O'Malley, arrives in a small Minnesota town with the poetic name of Deer Lake. And almost immediately she faces a serious test. A quiet town is overwhelmed by a wave of horror: a little boy has been kidnapped. There are no witnesses to the crime, no evidence, not even demands for ransom - only mysterious notes that appear from time to time in which an unknown person mocks the police and townspeople, accusing them of a terrible sin. The criminal is clearly inviting Megan to play a sophisticated psychological game with him. But Agent O’Malley does not intend to play by someone else’s rules...

Її рішучість і сміливість у боротьбі з невідомим злочинцем викликають захоплення, а таємничі записки додають ще більше напруги до сюжету. Я була вражена тим, як автор вдало поєднує елементи трилера з глибокими психологічними аспектами, змушуючи читача замислитися над темою гріха та відповідальності.
