The book about Ermak, the conqueror of Siberia, belongs to the pen of the recognized classic of the historical and biographical genre, Ruslan Grigorievich Skrynnikov. Based on a painstaking analysis of extensive documentary material, it recreates a grandiose panorama of the expedition of Russian Cossacks led by Ataman Ermak Timofeevich (1582–1585), which resulted in the annexation of Siberia to the Russian state. There is no doubt that this event became one of the most important in all of Russian history, and Ermak himself is one of the outstanding people of our Fatherland. As an Appendix, the book contains the texts of two Siberian chronicles of the 17th century, telling about the epic of Ermak, as well as the original text of the Synodik to the Ermakov Cossacks, compiled in 1622 with the participation of the surviving Cossacks of his squad.
