Over the Hill is a dystopian story. The action takes place in a lost microcountry located somewhere in Asia, but incorporating features of post-colonial countries from all over the world. A family (father, mother and their ten-year-old son) goes on a journey to ancient cities. On the way, the bandits drug them with sleeping pills and throw them off the train. Having escaped with minor injuries, the travelers come to their senses in a new, incomprehensible world. They find themselves in a country that once experienced the Great War (first with foreign colonialists, and then with local tribes) and the struggle against internal enemies. The state is governed by the Council of Elders. The Constitution is replaced by the Great Oral Law, and the sacred source of power is the mysterious Great Voice, which gives orders on all the most important issues. Travelers will have to see what cultivated hatred, the fight against everything foreign and those who disagree have led this country to, and save their love and themselves in this unfriendly world.
