The book is an edition of the first canto of the epic poem by the Roman poet Silius Italicus (1st century AD) - “Punica”, which describes the events of the second Punic War. The poem has never been translated into Russian in the original size. Along with the Latin text, an Introduction is also published here, which contains an overview of the life and work of Silius Italica, a translation in hexameter, and a historical and philological commentary. The book is supplied with numerous illustrations. Translation, comments and illustrations were made by students of school No. 1199 (“League of Schools”) under the guidance of their Latin teacher. The book will be of interest to students and teachers of gymnasiums and lyceums, students and teachers studying and teaching the Latin language, as well as everyone who appreciates and loves ancient poetry.
