The baptism of fire for the Soviet armored forces was the “undeclared war” of 1939 on Khalkhin Gol, where our tanks and armored vehicles were used en masse for the first time, bearing the brunt of the fighting. It was their counterattack that prevented the disaster and saved Zhukov’s troops from encirclement, eliminating the most dangerous Japanese breakthrough in the area of Mount Bain-Tsagan. It was the tank and motorized armored brigades that played a decisive role in the general offensive of the Red Army and the defeat of the enemy group. It is no coincidence that among the Heroes of the Soviet Union awarded the Gold Star for Khalkhin Gol, most of them were tankers, and the BT-5 tank was installed on the pedestal as a monument to that war. But a very high price had to be paid for the victory - 253 burned tanks and 133 armored vehicles. However, the Japanese losses were also great - in just three days, the “samurai” lost 44 of their 73 tanks, after which both of their tank regiments were withdrawn to the rear and no longer participated in hostilities... You will find comprehensive information in the new book of a leading military historian about the combat use of armored vehicles in Khasan and Khalkhin Gol - about the first resounding victory of Soviet tank crews, Marshal Zhukov and Stalin’s Red Army. This collector's edition is printed on premium quality coated paper and illustrated with hundreds of exclusive photographs.
