Heinrich Wölfflin is rightfully considered one of the most famous and authoritative art historians, the founder of the formal-stylistic method in art history, which is successfully used at the present time. His major work “Classical Art. Introduction to the Italian Renaissance" was first published in Munich in 1899, went through many reprints and was translated into all European languages. The first translation into Russian was completed in 1912. The proposed new translation is more consistent with the German original and the state of modern art history. The text is accompanied by almost 200 reproductions of paintings and sculptures mentioned by the author. The book is addressed to all readers who want to better understand the features of the work of the great masters of the Italian Renaissance, as well as students and teachers of art history departments of universities. The edition is supplemented by Iris Press. Reproductions of works are used in the design of the book Rafael Santi: “Donna Velata”, “Wonderful Catch”, “Feed My Sheep.”
