This small book contains almost everything that Walter Benjamin wrote about Kafka. People who knew Benjamin had no doubt that Kafka was “his” author (like Proust and Baudelaire). Of course, the volume of what was written is small, and what was printed during his lifetime was even less. Nevertheless, among the hundreds of texts written by Benjamin about literature, what was written about Kafka occupies its own, and not unimportant, place. To fully appreciate the work that Benjamin did, both the general context and his personal situation must be taken into account. That is why the collection includes not only completed texts about Kafka, but also notes (partly embodied in these texts, partly remaining as sketches), as well as letters.
