The study is devoted to a topic little studied in literary studies - the use of prefaces in the works of F. M. Dostoevsky. Prefaces in his work appear only after exile and precede the most complex works - “Notes from the House of the Dead”, “Notes from the Underground”, “Demons”, “The Brothers Karamazov” and “The Meek One”. L.
