When we are talking about events that affect the fate of millions of people, then to human forgetfulness is added a burning desire to correct, change, or embellish something after the fact. “No one lies like an eyewitness,” Napoleon once said, and he was right. And when civilizations or political systems change, the winners always have a monopoly on writing history, striving to cover up their own, often dirty and bloody, path by distorting or even falsifying the past. It is the desire to preserve for posterity many real facts, important actions of already departed comrades that lies in The basis of my decision is to compile subjective essays on the recent past. These are essays, not detailed memoirs. I have already repeatedly outlined scientific assessments of recent events in legal and political studies, but, as life has shown, my debt is to those who have already passed, to those who believed me in 1988–1989. and supported me in the following decades - leave the subjective for posterity. That Truth, without which our very struggle for the Motherland, for Russia at the turn of the 20th–21st centuries will remain incompletely understood.
