The second volume includes more than 600 letters from I. Ehrenburg from 1931–1967. Arranged chronologically, they contain unique material about Europe in the 1930s, about the war in Spain and the Patriotic War of 1941–1945, about the eras of the Stalinist dictatorship and the Khrushchev Thaw. Ehrenburg's mail was huge, so his circle of addressees included not only prominent figures in world culture and politics, but also front-line soldiers, readers, and voters. The book tells about the life and work of the writer, about his plans, hopes, dramas, mistakes and successes, about his resistance to totalitarianism. Most of the letters are published for the first time. The publication contains an extensive scientific apparatus.
