“The Carpenter of Saardam” is a work by the Russian writer and painter Pyotr Romanovich Furman (1816-1856).*** “The Carpenter of Saardam” is a historical story for youth by P.R. Furman. In the Dutch city of Saardam, an unusual carpenter appeared, whom the locals called “Russian brother”. When an embassy from his homeland arrived at the Russian carpenter Peter, and the arrivals began to show their “brother” royal honors, the Dutch’s legs simply gave way. Furman Petr Romanovich is known as an artist and a brilliant translator from French, English, German and Italian. He also wrote original works, mainly historical novels and stories for youth: “Narva”, “The Carpenter of Saardam”, “The Fisherman’s Son Mikhail Vasilyevich Lomonosov”, “Alexander Vasilyevich Suvorov-Rymniksky”, “Alexander Danilovich Menshikov”, “Children’s comedies, stories and they were." Works by P.R. Furman are written in simple, bright, expressive language. They tell about Russian history in an entertaining way: about outstanding historical figures, events that brought glory to Russian weapons. Books by P.R. Furman are educational and will be of interest to the modern generation who wants to know the history of their country.
