Campaign in the North African theater of operations in 1940-43. was one of the most important fronts of the Second World War. The Allies fought for control of North Africa against the German Afrika Korps, commanded by the legendary Erwin Rommel. But the role played by Italian troops on this front, especially the elite armored divisions supporting the Germans, has not been studied as thoroughly as the actions of British and German forces. This study examines in detail the participation of three Italian armored divisions in the campaign - Ariete, Littorio and Centauro - and their important contribution to Rommel's victories in 1941-43.
