At noon on August 25, 1968, eight people went to Red Square to protest against the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia. The book by one of the participants in the legendary demonstration, poet and translator Natalya Gorbanevskaya, is dedicated to the history and consequences of this, perhaps the most famous anti-Soviet protest. Created in 1969, distributed in samizdat and translated into several languages, this documentary chronicle is published for the first time in Russia. The book is supplemented with a new preface and commentary by the author, which provides unknown details of the history of the confrontation between civil society and totalitarian power in the USSR.
