The subject of the book is the policy of red terror in Soviet Russia in 1918, which found expression in the activities of the Cheka and local emergency commissions. The Red Terror of the Cheka was not limited to 1918 alone, but it was this year that most accurately embodied the ideas of political and class, partly socio-economic terror. The subsequent Red Terror in Ukraine in 1919 had a fairly pronounced national background; the Red Terror in Crimea in 1920 was primarily of a military-political nature and put a bloody end to the confrontation between the white and red armies in the civil war.
