The action of the books in the series takes place in one imaginary universe and revolves around the history of one family - after whose surname these novels received the collective name “The Vorkosigan Sagas”. Most of these books are devoted to the adventures of Miles Vorkosigan, the son of a high-ranking aristocrat from the militarized planet Barrayar. Miles Naismith Vorkosigan was definitely born under a lucky star - he is the only scion of an ancient aristocratic family that owns a significant share of the lands of Barrayar; his parents are the legendary Admiral Aral Vorkosigan, the all-powerful Prime Minister, and the brave Cordelia Naismith, who enlightened the Barrayaran lords about the dangers of male chauvinism. Moreover, fate gifted him with amazing military talent - he led his own mercenary fleet even before admission to the military academy... But he has some problems. During the assassination attempt on Aral Vorkosigan, his pregnant wife Cordelia was exposed to poison gas. Only thanks to unprecedented medical intervention did the child survive - to grow into a pain-torn, small man with fragile, chalk-like bones... on a planet obsessed with mutagenic superstitions. As the son of a major political figure, Miles is constantly targeted by conspirators and assassins: Barrayaran politics are serious business. For his compatriots, he is a “mutant lord,” a “daddy’s boy,” who gets everything only thanks to the patronage of his influential relatives. And outside the Empire there are other problems: the rest of the civilized galaxy considers the Barrayarans ignorant and bloodthirsty barbarians. How does Miles cope with all this? Well, firstly, he thinks a little faster than those around him, and secondly, he’s damn charming. He is an arrogant and domineering subject, endowed with a brilliant mind and a sense of humor, which, however, does him more harm than good. Honor and duty are the meaning of his life for Miles, but at the same time he is also a terrible intriguer. Thus, his own personal qualities multiplied the burden of troubles provided for him by his origin... Real, serious troubles that jeopardized the lives of his friends, the honor of his family, the safety of his planet. Contents: 1.
